The Juilliard’s Dance Division

Juilliard Dance is a groundbreaking four-year conservatory programme whose faculty and alumni have changed the face of dance worldwide. Students earn a B.F.A. degree or a diploma, training and performing in six class and rehearsal studios, plus two theatres. Approximately 120 annual performances include fully-staged concerts and presentations, studio workshops, tours, and outreach programs.

Founding director Martha Hill established Juilliard Dance in 1951 as the first major teaching institution combining equal instruction in modern and ballet techniques. Ballet master and master teacher Lawrence Rhodes has been artistic director of Juilliard’s Dance Division since 2002.

Alumni include noted directors and choreographers such as Pina Bausch, Lar Lubovitch, Bruce Marks, Ohad Naharin, Paul Taylor and others found in virtually every established contemporary and ballet company in the U.S. and abroad.
